I had to have Aggie put to sleep tonight. After fighting for 3 years to get rid of all of her sores caused by a single flea bite she was having rapid breathing and Dr. Klein was so good to get us in today to find in the x-rays many spots on her lungs which they believe was cancer. They think the prednisolone had masked it and now that she was off the pred it reared it ugly head.
Like so many of the things that take our pets we have no idea how long she has had it. There was never an x-ray taken of lungs because that was never an issue. For 2 years she lived with Kim trying every food to clear things up. She had open sores on her body that wouldn't go away only to find out it was all caused by fleas and ONE bite is all it took. We did blood test after blood test, tried different medications, different skin treatments, shots, and at one point things seemed to get better but it would always turn back to something negative.
I got her a year ago in April and at my house she was one of the family. Dr. Klein at Bradshaw Vet was determined to get her well and down to only one medicine but her blood sugar was extremely high!(caused by the pred and weight), of the course the pred made her hungry so it was a vicious circle. We were down to 2 meds a day but needed to come off the pred to see if what was causing current issues was the pred or if she was diabetic. It seemed to be caused by the pred so we weaned her off of it and the ugly cancer took over. She had spots on her lungs.
She is no longer in pain...doesn't have to have any meds shoved down her throat....her mouth doesn't hurt from constant sores. she doesn't have to fear me chasing her down to be pilled or loaded into a kennel for another ride to the vet.....she can eat ALL she wants over the Rainbow Bridge and take care of all the new arrivals :)
