Well I dont know he simply might be to sweet to stay here... He follows me to the toilet in the middle of the night no matter how many times I get up...

He makes dove calls squeeks and squacks as he walks zigzag through my feet... His buzzer is so loud I need ear plugs... He comes everytime he is called...

He cuddles Bell and licks her face at night when she is in the cat sack then stomps her when I let her out...

He lets me pick him up and cuddle him when ever I want so I dont know... maybe he belongs with a different family...

Luna is settling in well at her new forever home!

After my last cat passed away in January 2017 I considered not adopting another cat.  However as some time passed, I did find I had it within myself to help one more.

Because I wanted a very specific cat, older because they are less likely to be adopted, small, female, healthy, calm, Petfinder seemed the best place to go to narrow the search.

In the month and a half of searching, no cats fitting that description became available locally.   I started looking further away and found Luna in Sacramento at Lapcats Rescue.

When I called to inquire about Luna, Barbara Doty answered my called very quickly.  Luna had just been taken to Lapcats.

I filled out the online form, received acceptance, very quickly also, and we made arrangements for me to come to the Petsmart Adoption center in Elk Grove.

Barbara was waiting there when we arrived.  Since I had not met Luna yet, Barbara allowed me to have a few minutes with her.  I knew she was the cat for me.

Then we got to the paperwork.  Along with the adopti! on form, there was other important and helpful documentation, i.e., vaccine records, microchip info, surrender form, etc.   As I like to have as much background information as possible, the information provided was appreciated.

Barbara explained very cleary all that I needed to know.  She made sure I understood, for instance, the microchip transfer process.

I noticed as we were woking on adoption paper work that Lapcats volunteers were tending to the cats quarters.  The cats were receiving care and attention.

Barbara was also supportive in that she was willing, because Luna was an older cat, to have the bloodwork done to assure that the cat as healthy.  When Luna arrived at my home she had a little trouble adjusting and Barbara supported me by giving helpful advice.

My experience with Lapcats and Barbara, was heartwarming and uplifting.  She and the volunteers truly care about the animals.  I appreciate that older cats are taken in and given a chance.

Lapcats Rescue is well managed, dedicated to the cause of saving as many felines as possible.  It is uplifting knowing there is such a dedicated group working for the improvement in the lives of homeless cats.

I would give Lapcats Rescue 5 stars.

Just wanted to share some pictures and an update on Bella. Here she is sleeping on her blankie on the couch and again in her blankie just hanging out. She seems to have adjusted nicely and is enjoying life in her new home. I sure like having her around. She is very sweet and funny. Thank you again for assisting me in finding the perfect kitty for me. Next time I'm at Petsmart we will stop by to see you.

I love having Ben and Jerry. So glad they were found by Lapcats. Jerry still loves to be cradled like a baby and Ben is just too adorable and always rubs his nose on mine to greet me!

Look at our sweet little Picasso! He went from a life on the streets with a plastic lid embedded in his neck to this! I cannot thank you enough.  Picasso has a great personality and he love playing.

This is great update on Lily's dental procedure, and how we are able to continue to help the cats we rescue with things like the Petfinder Foundation Grant that enabled us to pay for Lily's dental.

​A note from her adopter:

It has been four years since I became acquainted with Barbara Doty and Lapcats.  I had been looking to adopt a tabby cat which led me to the Lapcats website. Lily was to be my first indoor only cat. I had been considering adopting a second cat to keep Lily company. This was also a first for me. When I arrived to meet and bring her home I was told that Lily had been bonded to another cat. It was suggested that it would be wonderful for both cats if I adopted them both together.  That was easy! It was the best decision I could have made. I had always believed the myths about cats being aloof and solitary.  It turns out that Lily and Oggie absolutely love each other. When they aren't snuggling up to me, they are cuddling and playing with each other.  Who knew?

I kept in touch with Barbara over the years when I took the cats to her to get their nails trimmed. But I recently got some devastating news. Lily needed extensive and expensive dental work. This is where everything started to go sideways. The vet had spent a few minutes examining her and the majority of the time explaining how much it would cost to fix her teeth. Which was the least expensive; the wellness plan or the a la carte way?  It really didn't matter because there was no way I could have afforded any of it.  It was going to cost $800 - $1000. I kept telling the vet over and over that I didn't have that kind of money as she continued to talk over me. She sent me home with six pages of cost estimates.

I started to call around to other vets to get other estimates. It was all about that same. I followed the phone calls with internet searches for organizations that might be able to help low income seniors dealing with this crisis. With no luck there, I cried a lot and considered the possibility of having to surrender my beloved pet. It looked like Lily's dental crisis might be a death sentence.

Then I thought of Barbara. I sent her an email and asked if she knew of any organizations that might be able with these expenses.  She emailed back and said that Lapcats would pay for Lily's dental work. I read it twice to make sure I had read it right.  My eyes were not deceiving me. This time I cried for joy.

Barbara and Lapcats do much more than connect abandoned and surrendered cats with their new families.  In this case they saved my cat's life for the second time.

Wanted to give you an update on Maria. We did change her name to Charley. I took her today to Franklin Ranch for her check up. She is healthy, happy and very sweet. She is a wonderful addition to the family. When my nieces come to visit, she curls up with them at night and puts them to sleep! Thank you again!

Approximately 4 years ago, I lost Rusty, the sweetest kitty I'd ever had, to a bizarre illness that the Vet never did figure out. My heart was shattered. He had thick, long, gorgeous fur and was clearly part Maine coon. I missed him like crazy because I absolutely adored him.

Shortly thereafter I had the urge to rescue another kitty and give it some of the love I'd given Rusty. Sounds crazy but I knew Rusty would want me to give a new kitty a good life like he had had. A friend found Jax (then called "Fluffy") online, available at Animal Control. I went to get him the very next day and found out that Lap cats had taken him.

The following day, I went to the Lap cats shelter, a beautiful kitty haven that  Barbara lovingly created out of her house. I greeted several kitties and was led outside to a screened patio where Jax was laying on a tower of cat beds. I said, "You are coming home with me, ok?" He didn't object so I gathered him up in my arms adopted him, knowing it would be the 4th place he'd be in only one week.

I figured he might be scared or confused. I let him out of his carrier and my girl kitties immediately gathered in a cluster to stare with wide eyes full of curiosity. Jax let a few touch noses and sniff at him, then he went in my bedroom. I followed him about 15 min later and he was sound asleep on my bed. He knew he belonged here.

He is sweet, playful and always waits to be invited before launching into your lap and purring like crazy. He was a perfect fit. I don't know why anyone would surrender him, but I'm thankful he's part of my family!!!
